About the book…
Snakeskin Stilettos is the first full collection of one of Northern Ireland's most exciting emerging voices, Moyra Donaldson. Shortlisted for the Tribune/Hennessey New Irish Writers' Prize, Moyra Donaldson was also given the Allingham Award for Poetry. She has written for the theatre and her screenplay, L, was filmed in 1996.
A breadth of literary exploration which is evidenced in the easy marriage of the lyrical and the dramatic in these poems.
Confident in tone and technique, the collection's imaginative explorations rest in an assured eye for details and an ear finely cocked for the fine nuances of the everyday and mundane.
With a sensibility firmly grounded in the present yet alert to the urgencies of the past and future, Donaldson's poems are urbane and sophisticated, determined to challenge and engage the reader: whether investigations of home and family, the fidelities and betrayals of love, the liberations of the fantastical, the bindings of myth and history, or the unsettling ghosts of the past, the poems in Snakeskin Stilettos are brave, witty and unafraid.
